Mental illness also refers to a mental disorder or psychiatric disorder, that affects your thinking process, mood, and behaviour and also can cause significant distress. It is associated with how you feel, think, and behave. Frequent stress without any good relief in which you are unable to work normally can result in some major mental health issues or mental disorders.

Depression, anxiety disorders, Bipolar Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Schizophrenia, Disruptive behaviour and dissocial disorders, Neurodevelopmental disorders, eating disorders, and addictive behaviours are some examples.

It can hamper your life in different ways and can cause problems in your social life, your daily life, your thinking process, your behaviour, and your relationships.

Many people face these kinds of situations in their life but if you notice or feel its ongoing symptoms you must get diagnosed.

To identify such kind of situation you need to get diagnosed by a professional of Mental Health, usually a psychiatrist.

Sometimes psychologists may help you to deal with it or sometimes the medication or sometimes both.

As per WHO, In 2019, 1 in every 8 people, or 970 million people around the world were living with a mental disorder, with anxiety and depressive disorders the most common (1). In 2020, the number of people living with anxiety and depressive disorders rose significantly because of the COVID-19 pandemic.  Initial estimates show a 26% and 28% increase respectively for anxiety and major depressive disorders in just one year (2). While effective prevention and treatment options exist, most people with mental disorders do not have access to effective care. Many people also experience stigma, discrimination, and violations of human rights.

Mental illness Symptoms

Signs and symptoms vary from person to person and their situations and conditions.

Some examples of signs and symptoms are:

•             Tiredness and low energy

•             Sleeping issues

•             Unable to think properly

•             Problem in concentration

•             Excessive fears

•             Excessive guilt

•             Excessive mood Swings

•             Unable to enjoy yourself, Feeling Neglected or lonely

•             Lack of Excitement

•             Detachment from reality

•             Major changes in eating habits

•             Anxiety, anger, impatient, or irritability.

•             Feeling more emotional than usual.

•             Trouble making decisions, solving problems

•             Suicidal thinking

•             Existing mental health problems getting worse

The above signs and symptoms cannot tell about your situation. It is always advisable to get a professional check-up. Most of the time these situations are temporary and reverse soon with good care.
